Lakas, NPC in talks again for possible coalition?
MANILA - After earlier announcing that it has abandoned talks to coalesce with the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC), a Lakas-Kampi-CMD party executive said Sunday that it is again in talks with the party founded by business tycoon Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco Jr.
Reggie Velasco, Lakas-Kampi-CMD deputy secretary general, told ABS-CBN News that the ruling party is currently in talks with NPC for a possible coalition. He expressed confidence that the alliance is already a done deal, at least at the local level.
Gilbert "Gibo" Teodoro Jr., Lakas-Kampi-CMD's standard bearer, is a former member of the NPC.
The NPC, however, denied that they were in talks with Lakas-Kampi-CMD.
Citing a conversation with NPC president Frisco San Juan, NPC spokesperson Rex Gatchalian said that both parties were not aware of ongoing talks for any coalition.
According to Gatchalian, the NPC's priority is to give its full support to Sen. Loren Legarda, the party's newly-appointed vice-presidential candidate.
While the NPC has allowed Legarda to enter into a partnership with Nacionalista Party’s standard bearer Sen. Manuel “Manny” Villar, Gatchalian said the NPC is still in the process of consulting its members as to who among the presidential candidates they want to support.
Last week, Lakas-Kampi-CMD Senior Vice President for Membership and former Surigao del Sur Rep. Prospero Pichay said that the party has "abandoned the idea of a Lakas-NPC coalition." (Read: Gibo-Loren Tandem no longer an option: Pichay)
The coalition was earlier said to be a graceful way for Legarda re-entry into the administration party as Teodoro's running mate.
But with Legarda at the NPC, Lakas-Kampi-CMD got actor-TV host and former Optical Media Board Chairman Edu Manzano as the party's vice-presidential candidate. With reports from ANC and Cecille Lardizabal, ABS-CBN News

The Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway was a flagship project of President Gloria Arroyo, together with the Cojuangco-Aquino family, owners of Hacienda Luisita, and the Lopez family through First Philippine Infrastructure Inc..(CAMA) REAL FAMILY TIED OF COJUANGCO-AQUINO MACAPAGAL-ARROYO.
The Japan Bank and International Corp. funded the project through a special yen loan amounting to P21.393 billion. The state-owned Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) provided P4 billion as counterpart.
Remulla said the issue affects taxpayers because of the loan component. “It's a heavy burden for taxpayers.”
We the FILIPINO people will pay for their socialized loan.These budget are equivalent of all budget for the whole country.Because of Noynoy/Cojuangco- ARROYO,the arroyo administrations put all the money in one project,and the budget supposed to be for the whole country.
