MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Gregorio Honasan will file a resolution seeking to hold boxing champion Manny Pacquiao's future fights in the Philippines to boost the country's tourism industry and promote peace and order.

Honasan, chair of the Senate committee on public order and illegal drugs, noted that the country turns peaceful whenever Pacquiao's fights are aired. He said he wants to maximize this by bringing the fights home.

"Tuwing lalaban ang Pambansang Kamao natin, lowest crime rate, lahat tigil-putukan," he told reporters on Monday.

Calling the congressman from Sarangani "bigger than life," Honasan also believes Pacquiao can help in the peace process.

"Hindi lang word-class boxer si Congressman Manny Pacquiao kundi world-class human being," Honasan said.

Last week, the Senate approved six resolutions commending Pacquiao for his latest victory against the Mexican boxer Antonio Margarito.

One of these, Sen. Francis Pangilinan's Resolution 280, honors Pacquiao as the "greatest Filipino athlete."
