LP may take back nomination of Ampatuans - Drilon
MANILA, Philippines -- Senator Franklin Drilon announced on Thursday that he wants to withdraw the certificates of nomination and acceptance (CONA) issued by the Liberal Party (LP) to members of the Ampatuan clan running in the 2013 mid-term elections.
This, after reports circulated that nine members of the Ampatuan family will be running under the LP banner in the elections next year.
Drilon, the national chairman and campaign manager of LP, admitted they were not able to monitor the issuance of certificates at the local level.
Only local LP officials sign the CONA on behalf of the party, he said.
The Ampatuan clan has been tagged as the mastermind behind the brutal massacre of 58 people in Maguindanao province on November 23, 2009.
The Maguindanao massacre is considered as the worst-election related violence in the country. -- Report from Ruby Tayag, dzMM
