Miriam on 'epal' politicos: Ang papangit!
MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago is no fan of "epal" politicians or those who put their names and pictures on signages of public works projects.
Santiago was guest of honor and speaker at the Far Eastern University where she warned students on election "distortions," the most notorious of which is vote-buying during election day.
The senator said Filipino voters are often swayed by the personal appeal of the candidate.
She also brought up the use of TV ads by poll candidates. She said it costs about P340,000 to put up a 30-second ad on TV.
"TV ads should make you think. Kung napakaraming TV commercials ng candidate magtaka ka, saan nya kinuha ang pera nya. Kung kinuha yan sa contributor, hawak na sya sa leeg!" she warned.
The most applauded part of her speech was when she expressed her ire against epal politicians.
"Nakakainis yung mga epal! Ang papangit!"
