First Gentleman Jose Miguel "Mike" Arroyo has been discharged Sunday from St. Luke's Medical Center after a one-day confinement.
At 12:40 p.m. Sunday, Arroyo was allowed by his doctors to leave the hospital after suffering from "intense stomach pain" Friday evening on board a Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight to Peru for the APEC leaders' meeting. His ailment forced the chartered PAL flight to make an emergency stop over at Osaka, Japan.
"The FG suffered from severe abdominal pain three days ago, which prompted them to land in Japan for evaluation. Nothing to worry about...diarrhea was resolved last night...sent him home," Dr. Julie Cervantes said in her medical bulletin.
Arroyo said that his condition has already improved, saying that he can go home already. He also made it clear that he suffered from severe abdominal pain, contrary to initial reports that he had a heart attack.
"What I suffered there in the plane was excruciating abdominal pain so the doctors decided to land the plane somewhere near the area which was Japan at that time. I'm glad this episode is over. I did not have a heart attack, thank God, but it was very painful, very severe abdominal pain which may have led others to conclude that I had a heart attack but that's not so," he said in an interview.
However, Cervantes said that the first gentleman still needs to undergo a series of tests next week, which includes an executive check-up.
"On Friday, the President and I will be returning here for my executive check-up," Arroyo said.
Earlier, executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, along with presidential sons Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo, and Camarines Sur Rep. Diosdado Ignacio "Dato" Arroyo, paid a visit to the first gentleman at St. Luke's Medical Center.--With reports from Henry Atuelan, dzMM, and ANC
