MANILA - Court of Appeals Justice Jose Sabio is reportedly fighting for his life at a local hospital after suffering a stroke last weekend.

During the Monday flag ceremony at the Court of Appeals, an appeal was made for "Type O" blood donations for the magistrate.

Sabio’s students at the Ateneo de Manila Law School have also posted the same appeal on their Facebook profile pages, adding that Sabio was “in critical condition” since Sunday night.

One student said Sabio suffered a heart attack while he was at home on Saturday. He reportedly hit his head when he fell.

He was reportedly rushed to the University of Sto. Tomas Hospital where he went into coma while the doctors were operating on him.

Supreme Court spokesperson Midas Marquez confirmed the news.

Sabio is the chairman of the 11th Division of the Court of Appeals. He teaches law in Ateneo and at the University of the Philippines Institute of Judicial Administration (UPJIA).

He was previously dragged into, and eventually reprimanded for his role in, the Meralco boardroom row between pension fund GSIS and the Lopez family in 2008.

He is the brother of Presidential Commission on Good Government chairman Camilo Sabio. - with a report from Timi Nubla, ABS-CBN News
