MANILA, Philippines - The Senate on Tuesday ratified the bicameral conference committee report on Senate Bill 78 (House Bill 6144) or the so-called "kasambahay" bill, which seeks to uphold the rights of domestic workers.

With the House ratifying it a day earlier, it now just needs the President's signature to become a law.

The measure sets the monthly minimum wage of household help to P2,500 within the National Capital Region, P2,000 for those within chartered cities and first class municipalities, and P1,500 for those in other municipalities.

It also gives house helpers social benefits as members of the Social Security System, PhilHealth, and Pag-Ibig Fund.
