The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will implement a fare rollback in public utility vehicles such as jeepneys and passenger buses amid the continued decrease of oil prices in the global market.
LTFRB Chairman Thomson Lantion said the fare rollback will take place on December 8 at the earliest.
Jeepney fares will be back to P7.50 for the first four kilometers from P8.
Metro buses, meanwhile, will charge P8.50 for the first four kilometers instead of the current P9.
"Kung meron pang pagbaba [sa presyo ng gasolina], we can call for an emergency meeeting to lower it some more," said Lantion.
Transport groups agreed with the implementation of the fare cuts, citing that their fuel expenses have been gradually decreasing because of the steady decline of oil prices.
Taxi and provincial bus operators are set to announce their own fare cuts on Wednesday.
“We are doing this because we care for our passengers,” said Leonora Navarro of the Association of Taxi operators of Metro Manila. -- With a report from Apples Jalandoni, ABS-CBN News
