A third flight will be sent to Thailand Tuesday afternoon to bring home the remaining Filipino passengers stranded by the political conflict in the country’s capital.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Esteban Conejos Jr., said Philippine Airlines (PAL) will dispatch a third flight from Manila at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The said flight is expected to bring home some 180 stranded Filipinos from Chiang Mai.

In a text messages to abs-cbnNEWS.com, Conejos announced that yesterday, PAL special flight to Chiangmai had brought home 422 Filipinos at 11:20 p.m..

It was the first flight that went to Bangkok from Manila since November 26 when airline companies began canceling all flights to Bangkok.

The PAL flight fetched Filipinos at Chiang Mai provincial airport. The Filipinos traveled on bus for 10 hours from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, where DFA officials made arrangements for their flight back home.

Meanwhile, Conejos said the second flight from the Philippines, Cebu Pacific, flew in at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday with 158 stranded Filipino passengers.

He added that with these flights, the Philippine embassy in Thailand believes that all Filipinos stranded in Bangkok have been brought safely home.

“Nonetheless, DFA has reserve arrangements with Cebu Pacific to undertake another flight mission, should that be necessary,” he said.

On Monday, Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Antonio Rodriguez made a rough estimate that there may still be 300 more Filipinos trapped in Thailand.

“I think some of them are still somewhere in Thailand enjoying the place. That's why it is very difficult for us to give an accurate number of Filipinos who are still in Bangkok,” Rodriguez said.

“Marami pa siguro dyan. Thailand is such a big place and it’s so easy to go to so many places,” he added. Report from Jeff Canoy, ABS-CBN News
