Makati frat mauling caught on CCTV
MANILA, Philippines - Closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera caught how fraternity members mauled 2 men at a Whistlestop store in Makati in the early morning of November 25.
The footage shows 2 teens being ganged up by a group, with the head of one victim being rammed against the wall.
The owner of the Whistlestop store, Lex Ledesma, showed ABS-CBN News extensive damage to the wall.
In his blog, Ledesma denounced the culture of violence prevalent among fraternities.
He planned to make the CCTV footage public, which showed the faces of the assailants.
However, Ledesma had a change of mind because one of the fraternity members approached him and apologized.
The man also reportedly offered P10,000 to pay for the damages and promised to join Ledesma in his campaign to help fraternity members jailed for hazing.
It was discovered that those involved in the mauling were lawyers and law students who can help give legal aid to prisoners.
Ledesma said this is better compared to the video going viral on the internet.
He admitted that many are angry at his decision not to make the CCTV footage public.
However, he said he will release it if a case is filed against the fraternity members and the court orders him to do so.
The school where the fraternity members study has requested for a copy of the video footage.
Ledesma has given a copy of CCTV footage to the school. - report from Ces Oreña Drilon, ABS-CBN News
