Palace confident RH Bill will pass
MANILA, Philippines - The Palace is confident that it has the numbers both in the House of Representatives and the Senate to pass the reproductive health bill.
"Based on the reports that we have in the Senate, it seems that there is support in the Senate for the responsible parenthood bill. In the House, the things speak for itself. There was already a vote taken. We hope the third reading will be a ratification of the secod reading," Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said.
The Palace asked opponents of the reproductive health bill not to resort to name-calling, reacting to reports that Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles reportedly compared President Aquino to the Connecticut shooter for having supported the RH bill.
"I think that is a very unfair allusion to the Connecticut shooting. That is a very unfortunate tragedy and it should not be visited on any community. To compare it to the RH bill is grossly... malicious," Lacierda said.
"Can we be principled enough to discuss all these matters on the level of intellectual discussions and not name-calling and accusing the President more than what he is not?"
