Villar cuts Aquino's lead in new SWS poll
Without Chiz and Noli, Villar gains 7%, Erap up 4%
MANILA, Philippines - A BusinessWorld-Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey released on Tuesday has come up with similar findings as the Pulse Asia survey, which showed Senator Manny Villar and Joseph Estrada gaining significant points in the presidential race, although frontrunner Sen. Benigno Aquino III still has a big lead with 5 months left before the elections.
From a list of 11 presidential candidates in the Businessworld-SWS Pre-Election Survey conducted from December 5 to 10, Aquino was preferred by 46% of 2,100 respondents, Villar was chosen by 27%, and Estrada was picked by 16%.
In the November 4 to 8 SWS survey with 1,200 voter-respondents, Aquino was chosen by 47%, Villar got 20%, and Estrada got 12%.
Without Senator Francis Escudero and Vice-President Noli de Castro in the December 5 to 10 survey, Aquino's rating was statistically the same as in the November 4-8 survey, while Villar's went up from 20% to 27%, a gain of 7%.
Estrada's rating went up from 12% in November 4-8 to 16% in the December 5-10 survey of SWS.
Villar was thus able to cut Aquino's lead from 27% in November 4-8 to 19% in December 5-10.
Administration candidate Gilbert Teodoro was picked by 5% of respondents in December from 3% in November.
Bro. Eddie Villanueva and Sen. Richard Gordon each got 1% preference in December.
"Jamby Madrigal (0.2%), Oliver Lozano (0.1%), Mario Crespo (0.1%), John Carlos delos Reyes (0.1%), and Jesus Nicanor Perlas (0.03%) each obtained fractional numbers. Four percent could not give an answer," the SWS said.
BusinessWorld-SWS partnership
The December 5 to 8 SWS survey was commissioned by BusinessWorld under the "BW-SWS Partnership in 2009-2010 Pre-Election Surveys." BusinessWorld has exclusive right to be the first to print or publicly disclose the survey.
"The exclusion of candidates from the lists used in the survey was the judgment call of BusinessWorld," SWS said in its media release.
In the December 5 to 8 survey, respondents were asked: “Sa mga sumusunod na pangalan sa listahang ito, sino po ang malamang ninyong iboboto bilang PRESIDENTE ng Pilipinas, kung ang eleksyon ay gaganapin ngayon?” [Among the names found in this list, who will you probably vote for as PRESIDENT of the Philippines, if elections were held today?]."
The SWS said "the respondents were furnished with a BusinessWorld-approved list of 11 candidates to choose from, and gave their answers orally."
The SWS said "all lists were in alphabetical order, and included nicknames, as practiced by the Commission on Elections on election day."
From a list of 8 vice-presidential candidates in the survey, Senator Manuel Roxas was chosen by 43% while Sen. Loren Legarda got 32%, Jejomar Binay was picked b y 3%, and administration bet Edu Manzano and former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Bayani Fernando got 2% support each.
"Jose Sonza (0.3%) and Perfecto Yasay (0.1%) each scored fractionally. None of the respondents in the 2009 survey chose Dominador Chipeco, Jr.," the SWS said.
The Businessworld-SWS December 5-10, 2009 survey used face-to-face interviews of 2,100 adults. It had an error margin of ±2.2%. "The national estimate was obtained by using area estimates weighted by National Statistics Office medium-population projections for 2009," the SWS said.

Track Record.
Senator Dick Gordon’s track record in public service is one for the books.
As Mayor of Olongapo City, he brought order not only to the streets of his city but also to the lives of his people. Mayor Dick Gordon stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the people of Olongapo, shoveling the ashfall, and recovering what was left of their lives. With him at the helm, they rebuilt their city and their lives, later becoming a model city for peace and order, health care, education, livelihood, and good governance.
After the US Military Base closed in November 1992, he inspired and empowered the local population and a fleet of young professionals from here and abroad, and turned Subic Bay into the country’s showcase for economic progress, bringing in billions in investments and creating almost 100,000 jobs. World leaders like Margaret Thatcher, Dr. Mahatir Mohammad, and U.S. President Bill Clinton came to Subic to see the miracle that was the great transformation – and they came away impressed. So with the 18 APEC head of economies during the 4th Leaders’ Summit held thereat.
While he was the author of the success that is the Subic Bay Freeport, a twist of events took him away, but in time brought him towards a call to serve more people, this time as Secretary of Tourism. He knew that tourism was the country’s ticket to development – the fastest way to progress. Through his “Wow Philippines” campaign, the country became well-known abroad, and tourists started coming. Despite the challenges of the times, with the removal from office of the sitting president, the SARS outbreak, the Oakwood mutiny, the Dos Palmas kidnapping, and numerous bombings, not to mention the global terrorism problem, Secretary Gordon kept tourism afloat. In doing so, he lived up to his mantra – “tourism means jobs; where tourism advances, poverty retreats.”
So great was his contribution to the tourism industry that its players begged him not to run for Senator in 2004. But the road has led him to the Philippine Senate, perhaps not the ideal place for a man of action, a man who wants to see results for the people now. Yet, he has distinguished himself as a prolific lawmaker, an advocate of legislation that seek to uplift our people and our country. He is the main author and advocate of an Automated Election System law. Through this system, Senator Gordon hopes to leave our people with elections that are clean, honest, fair, and credible. The Tourism Bill, signed into law recently, is also a result of Senator Gordon’s years of hard work advocating tourism development for our country. He is also the principal author of the Veterans Equity Law. And as Chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee, he has shown that he is one who is never afraid to take a stand on any issue, firm but fair, serious and sincere.
Senator Gordon has held many positions, and succeeded beyond expectation at every single one of them. But I think that the job he loves the most is one that he has held for over forty years – his job as a volunteer of the Philippine National Red Cross. Today, he is its Chairman, and is a Governor of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, but his commitment and dedication to this organization and the work that it does goes far beyond title and position. In fact, in everything that he does, Senator Gordon goes beyond himself. We have seen him, above and beyond the call of duty, saving lives here in our own province as with Cabanatuan, Bulacan, Albay, Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Leyte, and Aurora, among many others throughout the years. Wherever there is a disaster or calamity, you can be sure that he is there, always first, always ready, always there often endangering his own life, defying his family, in order to alleviate other people’s suffering and uplift human dignity. And when the disaster is over, count on him to be there to help rebuild the community. In recent months, people have seen him in the news because of the Red Cross kidnapping crisis. People have seen him passionate, aggressive, sad, sometimes even angry. If he has appeared emotional, it is because he is a leader who truly cares – the captain of a ship who treats all of his men like they are his own children, because to him every life matters and is worthy of every effort, attention, compassion, and caring that he can give – no matter what anybody else says.
Senator Gordon is a leader with a vision for the future of his people, and a clear strategy to get them there. He is a leader who has made change, and change for the better. He has brought dignity and hope to his people and has motivated and inspired others to go in the right direction, and he, along with everybody, has sacrificed much to get there. In everything he has done, he has seen for his people a new country – a Bagumbayan. He has brought them out of the darkness and into the light. And now, he calls everyone to break free of their own limitations to chase after the horizon, to step into the light, grab hold of their own future, and finally build a nation that is enabled, ennobled and free.
Villar for President!!
Obama has a strong points kapag nasspeech compared to noy-noy na wala lang(Inuubo pa).
THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENT
PSYLOM, you really miss my point. But the cited Obama's personal 'political literature', only strengthens my point. When we compare things, we set certain criteria. Thus,
1. Obama and Noynoy were not on 'presidential' radar until they declared their intention to run. It was Clinton who was then the leading presidential timber of the Democrats. Just like Villar who was then the leading bet for the opposition (based on surveys) until Noynoy came in. True or False?
2. 'Local' legislator - Obama was elected and re-elected as local legislator (under US set-up). Noynoy was also elected as local legislator in the sense that only his district in Tarlac (not the entire Philippines) elected him as Congressman for three(3) consecutive terms. True or False?
3. Senator (national) - Obama was also a US Senator whose term has not yet expired when he run as president. The same for Noynoy who will run as president in 2010 with still 3 more years as senator.
4. Accomplishment - Obama has really no noticeable accomplishments as legislator that merited national attention. The same can be said of Noynoy. Both are nonetheless pursuing their own political belief and advocacy as legislators.
4. Party affiliation - Democratic Party is to Partido Liberal. Republican Party is to Nationalista Party (both being the first and oldest political party). Thus, Obama and Noynoy share some similar political agenda.
Be that as it may, I wonder why those who are not (yet) pro-Noynoy are assailing his supposed lack of accomplishments as legislator.
Why? Does Gibo have any that merited national attention? He became a national figure when he was appointed as DND secretary for two(2) years. Yet, he seemed to be unaware of what happened and what was happening with Maguindanao under the Ampatuans. Is this 'intelligence' or lack of it. Is topping the Bar a competent proof of ones Talino? Tell it to Sen. Defensor-Santiago and you will have an intelligent answer.
How about Villar, any legislative works which he can claims as his accomplishment. When he became the house speaker, it was by political negotiation and not by sheer leadership qualities, such that when he decided to support the impeachment of Erap, he lost his speakership immediately. When he became Senate president, again, it is more of political accommodation and maneauvering but he was so experienced such that he was able to advance his proprietary interests through the C5 insertions and others projects revolving around this real estate empire before he was deposed as senate president.
Is this the TALINO and EXPERIENCE that you are banking on?
SINO NGAYON ANG GUMAGAWA NG HAKA-HAKA? TELL THE TRUTH AND THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE.
Unfair to say Obama and Noynoy is comparable
It is not right to say that Obama and Noynoy is the same because Noynoy did not accomplish anything, did not do anything in his years in public service. Ibang iba sila ni Obama.
Below is a portion of Barak Obama's history as state legislator. You can read all about him in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barak_Obama
"Obama was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996, succeeding State Senator Alice Palmer as Senator from Illinois's 13th District, which at that time spanned Chicago South Side neighborhoods from Hyde Park-Kenwood south to South Shore and west to Chicago Lawn.[42] Once elected, Obama gained bipartisan support for legislation reforming ethics and health care laws.[43] He sponsored a law increasing tax credits for low-income workers, negotiated welfare reform, and promoted increased subsidies for childcare.[44] In 2001, as co-chairman of the bipartisan Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, Obama supported Republican Governor Ryan's payday loan regulations and predatory mortgage lending regulations aimed at averting home foreclosures.[45]
Obama was reelected to the Illinois Senate in 1998, defeating Republican Yesse Yehudah in the general election, and was reelected again in 2002.[
In January 2003, Obama became chairman of the Illinois Senate's Health and Human Services Committee when Democrats, after a decade in the minority, regained a majority.[48] He sponsored and led unanimous, bipartisan passage of legislation to monitor racial profiling by requiring police to record the race of drivers they detained, and legislation making Illinois the first state to mandate videotaping of homicide interrogations.[44][49] During his 2004 general election campaign for U.S. Senate, police representatives credited Obama for his active engagement with police organizations in enacting death penalty reforms.[50] Obama resigned from the Illinois Senate in November 2004 following his election to the U.S. Senate.[51]"
Obama was just a legislator back then and yet he is very active and showed his leadership skills early on. Unlike Noynoy who prefers to let other people lead, Obama is a true leader which makes him the best candidate for the U.S. Presidency. Noynoy has no arsenal on his side except for the fact that his parents are heroes and he has an immoral and loudmouth youngest sister who can defend him from his detractors and dictate him on what she thinks he should do. Obama doesn't need the advice of nuns or priests to proclaim his intention to run. He knows what he wants! And he acts on it. Noynoy doesn't know what to do, where to go and when to do something which explains why he sought advice from other people on a decision which he can obviously decide for himself but prefers to let others decide for him. That is not the way a man running to become a President should behave.
We should vote for someone who knows what needs to be done, not someone who is being pushed to do something. Our new President should have his own individuality intact, not a clone who prefers to voice out his parent's accomplishments because he has none of his own. If I am to choose, my choice will be either Gibo or Villar. Talino at experience ang kailangan! Hindi pangalan!
EAGLE EYE?
A person with eagle eye is said to be keen on details. But that can not be said of "Eagle Eye" who believes in Villar. Nonetheless, I fully respect his choice. But kindly verify the truth of your factual premises - e.g. Villar is for good governance. I believe he is not if you consider the way he spent his influence and CDF, building roads to and around his private properties and subdivisions. Have you ever wonder why he get richer while holding public office than when he was just a real estate businessman? Moreover, why are you disregarding from his alleged 'rag-to-rich' equation the contribution of his wife - Cynthia Aguilar Villar, the wind beneath the Villar's Empire. Yes, Villar is not that poor when he was living in Tondo. Is it true that his education was financed by his father who was then a government officeial? Why does Villar only mention his lola on his mother side? Is someone who cannot even finish his term - as house speaker or senate president - a good leader or it is simply an indication that his leadership was brought about, not by his qualities, but by something else, like his money, maybe?
I used to like Villar until Noynoy entered the picture. If you follow the US presidential election, Villar is comparable to Hilary Clinton until Barack Obama entered the pictute. NOYNOY AQUINO IS THE PHILIPPINE VERSION OF BARACH OBAMA? Both were nowhere on presidential radar until they made known their intention. If I have to choose three leaders, my first choice is NOYNOY, second is Gibo and third is Villar. Any comment?
Noynoy's Lead is Stable
The recent result of Pulse Asia and SWS have shown that, there is no way that they can beat Noynoy. His rating at 45% with the margin of error considered is more than enough to be a president this coming May 2010 election .Villar and Erap rating increase was due to Chiz withdrawal. It only indicate that Noynoy has a core of loyalist voters this coming May 2010 election which cannot be swayed by enormous advertisement of Manny Villar. For a multi party election, 35% will be the range for anyone to be a president. Only the withdrawal or disqualification of Erap with the help of GMA Supreme Court would give Manny Villar a chance or with the help of Computer Automation, if they can hacked the transmission of election returns. Unless the Comelec Automation which include transmission through satellite (using Globe or Smart Facilities) is tampered proof, there is possibilty that the will of the people would not be known. The system of transmission should be similar to credit card payment through the internet which is tampered proof.
Noynoy's IT experts should be prepared now on how they will review, run, check the software program/system and the source code if it is all tampered proof.
Noynoy accomplished nothing for years
Noynoy has an edge???
What edge?
Kailangan dito may utak.
To sum it up, walang kinabukasan kay Noynoy.
