Good choice, not automation, will solve election woes: Rosales

MANILA, Philippines - Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales believes that automation is not the solution to the country's election woes.

In his Christmas Day message, Rosales stressed the importance of making the right choice in selecting the country's next leader.

"The ultimate solution to our election problems does not exactly depend on the automated machines, but in the well thought of, more seriously considered, and much prayed for choice (vote), regardless of money or favor," he said.

"That looks like an ideal so difficult and so nearly impossible to attain in the present Philippine political practice," he added.

He urged Filipinos to exercise their power of choice in next year's national elections. He said with good choice comes peace.

"Peace is also the consequence of a good choice, whether that choice is to have enough to eat or to select a man who will honestly lead others to progress. Peace will come to everyone who does good," Rosales said.

Rosales earlier lamented that even if the May 2010 elections were fully automated, the local political system would remain corrupt if Filipinos continued to vote for traditional politicians.

Rosales said the country needs "honest, selfless and God-fearing leaders."

"Arrogant leaders, who in the past, thought that the nation could not go forward without then, had always been failures; and they had, unfortunately, brought the country down with them."

GOOD CHOICE, GOOD CHOICE! ANG GANDANG PAKINGGAN!

HELLO GARCI, HELLO GARCI! YUNG DAGDAG NA CHOICE, HUWAG KALILIMUTAN. PANGAKO YAN NI ANDAL NA BOKYA DAW YUNG CHOICE NUNG KALABAN.

Good choice can be protected by automated election

I fully agree with Cardinal Rosales that "good choice comes peace." Indeed, only "good" public officials (and those truly elected by the people) can bring forth peace and goodwill to our desparate nation.

But one should remind the good Cardinal that millions of "good choices" had been brought to naught in previous elections because counting of votes were manually done which dagdag-bawas operators easily manipulated in favor of their candidates.

This nefarious political dishonestly can NEVER happen in an automated election; thus, one's good choice of leaders will be fully protected, and if majority of Filipinos still hold the decency and moral obligation to elect "honest, selfless and God_fearing leaders", then we can truly expect responsible public officials to lead us after the 2010 election.

I pray that Cardinal Rosales view the automated election in this light.

NEVER AGAIN THIS TIME

.
Lessons learn from the political events and the time that have past in our country thought our people to be politically silent and critical, not to be manipulated anymore by the Catholic church guided political endorsement and media’s medium of political investigative propagandas.

The famous and great political blunders of the 1986 Edsa One actors and actresses led by Cardinal Sin, Cory Aquino and the elite civil societies and repeated again in 2001 Edsa Dos of Cardinal Sin, citizen Cory Aquino with Rep. Noynoy Aquino, citizen FVR, SC justice Hilarious Davide, Spkr. JDV and the elite civil societies only brought our country to a more serious political corruptions.

The political and social elites in our society and their perennial willing conspirator the Catholic clerics, the guardian of political status-quo, are the frontrunners in suppressing our people’s will of political self-determination and economic freedom.

Again, the Catholic Church is announcing their guidelines to the people on how to choose their favored candidates, while the media maximizes their politically malicious and uncalled for investigative journalis over television and radio outlets, broadsheets, tabloids and magazines.

Never again this time people of the Philippines.

MABUHAY ANG PWERSA NG MASANG PILIPINO!!!

IBALIK ANG PWERSA SA MASA!!!

Yeah good choice but who? I

Yeah good choice but who? I think automation will lessen election cheating. The elected candidates should be known right away within a day. Ampatuan case an example backed by Arroyo government.

whose point of view

But whose point of view is having a "good choice"?
I took a short course in journalism but I cannot really find the basis of quoting a statement from archbishop that warrants a NEWS.
Yes. it is a human interest among the circles of the clergy but not for the entire nation.
On the other hand, it is a human interest, specifically a social conflict because it is unusual and improper for clergy to comment on political system.

If we have traditional politicians, we also have social baggage that has corrupted the Filipinos for many centuries.

Im just curious on how people think
