More than 200 hurt by firecrackers since Dec. 21

The number of victims of firecracker-related injuries since Dec. 21 has already reached 228, reports from different hospitals showed Tuesday morning.

The victims, who have been rushed to hospitals even before Christmas, were mainly injured while they were using piccolo, baby rocket, lusis, kwitis, pla-pla, and whistle bomb.

Of the total number of those injured, 61 were rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center, 44 to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center and 22 to Amang Rodriguez Medical Center.

Another 20 were sent to the Philippine General Hospital, 15 to Rizal Medical Center and 14 to Mandaluyong City Medical Center.

Some 13 injured were rushed to the Pasay City General Hospital, another 13 to the Ospital ng Maynila, and 13 more to the Pasig City General Hopital.

Six, meanwhile, were admitted to the Quezon City General Hospital, five to the Quirino Labor Hospital, and two to the Las Piñas Hospital.

Last year, the tally of firecracker-related injuries almost reached 1,000, with the figure hitting 987, Health Assistant Secretary Eric Tayag told DZMM. -- a report from DZMM
