Four unidentified gunmen were slain by policemen in a predawn encounter in Quezon City, Wednesday.
Director Leopoldo Bataoil, Metro Manila police chief, said the suspects were on board a green Toyota Revo when spotted by policemen on Roosevelt Avenue around 2:30 a.m.
Bataoil said the Revo sped off when policemen signaled its driver to stop the vehicle. He said the operatives tried to stop the Revo for having a dubious license plate number.
A brief car chase ensued that ended on the Quezon Avenue-EDSA underpass.
Bataoil said the suspects fired at policemen during the hot pursuit. Three of them died on the spot during the shootout and a fourth suspect died at the East Avenue Medical Center.
The police official said the slain gunmen could have been members of a robbery/holdup or a carjacking group. With a report from Doland Castro, ABS-CBN News
