MANILA, Philippines – A policeman allegedly killed a suspected drug addict in Makati before dawn on Monday.

Victim Henry Atigas was shot multiple times in the face at around 1 a.m. in Barangay Olympia. The suspect in the shooting was identified as PO1 Ivan Agpoa of Pasig Police.

Henry's mother, Loreta, admitted that her son was a drug addict. She believes that Henry's refusal to share his drugs with Agpoa, allegedly an addict as well, was the motive for the murder.

"May kaaway po iyan (Henry) na pulis 'yung Ivan daw… Sa totoo lang ang anak ko, nagda-drugs iyan. Tapos hinihingan siya ng droga nung pulis. Kapag hindi niya binigyan, tinutukan siya ng baril... Talamak po talaga droga dito," Loreta said.

Barangay chairman Vicente Constatino corroborated Loreta's claim, saying the suspect would always point his gun to someone whenever he is drunk or under the influence of drugs.

"Madalas iyan dito - nagpapaputok at nanunutok lalo na kapag nakainom," Constatino.

Police said they will use the bullet slug found at the crime scene to identify the shooter. – report from Jerome Lantin, ABS-CBN News
