A six-month pregnant teenager was rushed to hospital after she fainted while waiting for the Black Nazarene's carriage Friday morning at the Plaza Sta. Cruz, Manila.
The Philippine National Red Cross –Emergency Rescue Units (PNRC-ERUs) said the 16-year-old pregnant girl was brought to the East Avenue Medical Center.
Four others were treated for various health complaints like difficulty in breathing, hypertension and dehydration during the Feast of the Black Nazarene festivities.
The PNRC-ERUs identified them as Mariano Santos, 72 (difficulty in breathing); Reynaldo Navarro, 56 (hypertension); Maria Teresa Valenzuela, 29 (fainted); and Lenie Flores, 48, dehydration.
A radio dzMM report said 112 devotees fainted during the procession.
The PNRC said it treated 64 patients throughout the Quiapo feast last year.
PNRC chairman Richard Gordon also mobilized a rescue rubber boat in case devotees accidentally fall into the Pasig River during the procession, which passes through McArthur Bridge.
Meanwhile, Gordon said a PNRC volunteer assisted a victim of snatching in Sta. Cruz, last Thursday.
He said the victim was on her way to Quiapo Church to attend a mass for the Black Nazarene when the suspect snatched her cellular phone near the Light Rail Transit (LRT) station at the corner of Carriedo Street and Avenida Rizal.
PNRC volunteers took the victim to operatives of the Manila Police District (MPD) posted near the area. Police are now hunting down the suspected snatcher who ran towards the direction of Plaza Lawton.
