MANILA, Philippines – Over 100 people were given medical attention during the procession of the image of the Black Nazarene on Wednesday, the National Capital Region Office (NCRPO) said.

The NCRPO said as of 9 a.m., 164 people have been reported injured. Most of the injured devotees were women who fainted, sustained bruises or suffered from broken bones.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC), meanwhile, said it has attended to 39 people who had their blood pressure shot up while wading through the sea of people just to get near the image, believed to be miraculous.

The PRC said at least 62 sustained minor injuries while another one was seriously injured. Another devotee had to be brought to the hospital.

A separate dzMM report, meanwhile, said 16-year-old Renzie Matias had her neck stepped on by one of the devotees while she was trying to reach the image of the Black Nazarene.

Matias, still conscious, had to wear a neck brace. – with reports from Noel Alamar and Dennis Datu, dzMM
