MANILA – A Facebook page dedicated to a 3 month-old baby in need of liver transplant has gained popularity among the users of the popular social networking site.

Baby Craig Jacob “Coby” Araos Castillo was born with chronic liver failure and must undergo transplant.

However, Philippine hospitals are unable conduct transplants on young babies. Coby’s family must then head abroad if they want him operated.

“Fortunately, there are two hospitals in Singapore that can operate on young babies. Singapore is our first option. It’s nearer so it will be safer for Coby to travel and it is [relatively] cheaper,” said Coby’s aunt Rachel Araos in an interview with ABS-CBNNews.com

Coby’s Facebook page, which has already gained nearly 2,000 supporters, is now being used to raise funds for Coby’s transplant.

“Initially, [the page was created] just to update friends and family of [Coby’s] progress. However, as we are faced with a possible liver transplant abroad, friends initiated several fund-raising activities. It snowballed from there,” said Araos.

Initially diagnosed with jaundice, Coby has been going in and out of the hospital ever since he was born. He now stays at The Medical City and is undergoing supportive treatments for his condition.

Coby’s family and supporters continue to raise funds for the ailing baby.
