5 hurt as bus catches fire in QC

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – Five people were injured after an HM Transport bus caught fire along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on Wednesday evening.

Bus driver Emiliano Capitulo Jr. said he heard an explosion before the bus caught fire at around 7:40 p.m.

According to one of the passengers, they panicked after seeing smoke and tried to get off the bus (TVZ 537) through the windows.

The five injured passengers were identified as Julius Hermano, Gerlie Casaway, Reynaldo Casaway, Raymond Casaway and Lalaine Casado.

Julius and Gerlie both sustained leg injuries after they tried kicking the windows.

The injured victims were brought to the East Avenue Medical Center.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire that completely burned the bus, which was headed to Fairview.

The incident momentarily stalled traffic in the area as only 1 lane was passable. - reports from Robert Mano and Zandro Ochona, dzMM
