MANILA, Philippines -- Forty-six people have been arrested for violating the election gun ban since its implementation last January 13.

Three of the arrested violators were government officials.

Figures from the Philippine National Police (PNP) showed that 14 of the violators were from Metro Manila.

The PNP has also confiscated at least 35 firearms and 6 grenades. Of the 35 firearms, 12 were high-powered guns and 23 were low-powered firearms.

Those caught violating the gun ban may face a jail time of six years, and lose the right to vote and run for public office.

The gun ban, which ends on June 13, aims to curb violence during the election period. -- Report from Edwin Sevidal, dzMM; With ANC
