Pasay fire leaves 330 families homeless
MANILA, Philippines – Around 330 families or 1,500 individuals were left homeless by the fire that struck a residential area in Pasay City on Saturday night.
The fire, which hit more than 200 houses and some establishments along Merville Access Road in Kalayaan, Barangay 201, reportedly started at 6:35 p.m.
It reached 5th alarm at 7:20 p.m.
The Pasay City Fire dispatched several fire trucks, but the blaze only got under control at 1 a.m. on Sunday.
While there were no casualties reported, a resident identified as Efren Mendoza was rushed to the hospital after suffering fire injuries.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire but early reports said the fire started from an unattended candle inside the house of a couple, who is believed to be under the influence of illegal drugs.
Homeless residents are temporarily seeking shelter at the area’s covered court.
