MANILA -- Officials of the San Francisco Police in the United States have expressed alarm over the reported entry of the Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel in the Philippines.

In an interview in Camp Crame, Eric Quema of the San Francisco police said the Mexico Sinaloa drug cartel is known as one of the notorious syndicates in Mexico.

He said members of the drug syndicate have engaged in beheading and killings "to send a message" to their enemies.

Quema said even Mexican government officials are not spared by the group.

The Philippine National Police (PNP), he said, must keep an eye on the drug cartel to prevent it from expanding its operations.

He also warned that it is heavily funded and could influence government officials.

Quema said the San Francisco police are ready to provide the PNP with important information pertaining to the cartel.
