UP student in campus attack has brain injury
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Lordei Camille Hina, a student of the University of the Philippines (UP), suffered a brain injury when she was attacked inside the Diliman campus last Wednesday, her doctors said.
Hina remains at the intensive care unit of Capitol Medical Center.
UP students held a demonstration at the campus grounds on Friday, calling for justice for Hina.
Workers also cleaned the bloodied floor at the University Student Council office in Vinzons Hall, where 2 suspects attacked Hina.
Police said Hina was sitting by herself with 2 laptops when the 2 men tried to steal the equipment from her.
The victim tried to fight back but the suspects hit her head with a trophy and she was left unconscious.
Student newspaper Philippine Collegian reported that the victim was also stabbed in the face with an ice pick.
A security guard of the university caught one of the suspects, who was later identified as Danmar Vicencio.
Vicencio is now under police custody and is facing charges of robbery and grave physical injury with a P300,000 bail.
The suspect claimed that he was high on drugs during the incident.
“Binuyo kami nu’ng tropa na kunin ‘yung laptop. Naka-drugs kasi kami nu’n eh, kaya ganoon ang nangyari,” he said.
Police are still searching for the other suspect, Dante Santos.
They said the 2 introduced themselves as tattoo artists applying for a booth at the upcoming university fair.
Security measures at the university, meanwhile, have been tightened at the university especially at Vinzons Hall. -- Report from Apples Jalandoni, ABS-CBN News
