MANILA, Philippines – A Bureau of Customs (BoC) clerk, who is in hot water for attempted murder charges, has been stripped of his license to carry a firearm by the Philippine National Police Firearms and Explosives Office (PNP-FEO).

Customs employee Paulino Elevado, who is also facing a lifestyle check for driving a Porsche, had his gun license stripped after he allegedly fired his caliber .40 Taurus pistol at a vehicle during a traffic altercation.

Elevado’s companion Florencio Bato was also stripped of his gun permit after shells of a caliber .45 firearm were recovered from the scene.

However, Bato’s caliber .45 Sam shooter was not found in his possession when they were arrested, leading police to suspect that Bato may have disposed of his firearm prior to the arrest.

Elevado’s gun, on the other hand, is in the custody of Pasay City police.

The Customs clerk is under investigation after footage from a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera showed him driving a Porsche and chasing a Toyota Innova driven by a 20-year-old student last January 21.

Elevado and Bato then allegedly beat up the student and his companion when they caught up with them. Pasay police said four gunshots were also fired at the Innova.

Both suspects were jailed but were able to post bail.

Elevado has been placed under floating status in the BoC while the investigation is ongoing. -- Report from Edwin Sevidal, dzMM
