MANILA, Philippines – Six "jueteng" collectors were arrested in Quezon City on Thursday.
The suspects were caught in the act of drawing the winning numbers of the illegal game. They were identified as Norberto Dizon, Bonifacio Segovia, Ronald Gonzales, Jeff Santos, Gregorio Naynes and Ariel Santos.
Naynes admitted his involvement in the illegal activity. He said he was tasked to bring all the bets to the drawing station.
“Runner lang ho. Taga-dala po ako ng taya, ng mga papel. Pagkadala namin, okay na pwede na kaming umalis,” Naynes said.
Reyes, meanwhile, said he worked as a bet collector since there were no other jobs available for him.
“Alam naman ho namin [na ilegal]. Eh wala naman kasing ibang mapasukan kaya kapit muna dyan,” Reyes said.
The police also seized some jueteng paraphernalia from the suspects.
The suspects refused to reveal the identity of their operator.
“Hindi rin naman nila itinututuro sa amin. ‘Yan ang problema namin dyan, ‘di sila nakikiapgtulungan. Palipat-lipat yan ng lugar,” said Police Officer 2 Wilmore Bataanon of the Quezon City Police District.
The suspects are facing a charge of violating the anti-illegal gambling law. – report from Jacque Manabat, ABS-CBN News
