MANILA, Philippines – A househelper was arrested in Mandaluyong City Saturday afternoon after allegedly stealing jewelry and other properties amounting to P2 million from her Chinese employers.

The suspect, identified as Elizabeth Celiz, has been working for her employers for almost seven years.

According to a sworn statement of Mandaluyong police, they received complaints from Celiz's employer claiming that she stole jewelry and pawned it for P15,000.

While Celiz admits taking a small ring and a pair of earrings, she denied having taken other things that amounted to P2 million.

"Pinagbibintangan po ako na ninakaw ‘yung P2 million, na ninakaw ko ‘yung singsing at hikaw lang po," she told ABS-CBN news.

A native of Maguindanao, Celiz said that she took the jewelry to be able to send money in the province.

"Ma'am pasensiya na po. Wala po talaga akong ninakaw na ganong kalaking halaga," she added.

Celiz's employers remained mum despite her appeal and refused to talk to the media.
