MANILA, Philippines – The bus driver involved in an accident last Monday at the Alabang viaduct on the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting to damage to property and multiple physical injuries.
Fernando Aquino, the driver of the JAC Liner Bus, underwent inquest proceedings at the Muntinlupa Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday.
The management of Skyway Corp. said that based on their review of CCTV footage, Aquino went over the speed limit of 80 kilometers per hour for buses.
Aquino, however, claimed that he was not speeding, saying he was trying to evade another vehicle when he lost control of the bus.
Around 30 people were hurt in the accident.
Two of the injured passengers, identified as Rommel Lambitco and May delos Santos, are still confined at the Asian Hospital in Muntinlupa.
Lambitco and delos Santos were thrown off the bus when it swerved and turned to its side.
Delos Santos is out of danger while Lambitco is still at the hospital’s intensive care unit due to a head injury.
The bus company said it will shoulder the hospital expenses of the victims. -- Report from Alex Santos, ABS-CBN News
