Flower prices drop after Valentine's Day
MANILA, Philippines - Prices of flowers at the Dangwa Flower Market in Sampaloc, Manila dropped dramatically on Monday due to oversupply of flower stock a day after Valentine's Day.
Stall owners said a single rose that cost P50 during Valentine's Day now sells for P20, while a boquet of a dozen roses that used to sell for a P1,000 now sells for P300.
Florist Eugene Vergado said at least 30% of his flowers were left unsold after Valentine's Day. "Matumal talaga, hindi katulad nung isang taon na nagkulang pa ng supply," he said.
He added that since Valentine's Day fell on a weekend, some people had no time to buy flowers and just went to the mall.
Other florists said Filipinos were divided on celebrating Valentine's Day or the Chinese New Year.
