Robber shot dead after pointing toy gun at police
MANILA, Philippines -- A suspected robber was shot dead after pointing a toy gun at police authorities in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
PO3 Glensor Rallejo of the Manila Police District Homicide Division said jeepney passengers initially alerted patrolling police led by Senior inspector Elmer Gutierrez, deputy commander of Gandara Police Community Precinct, that they were robbed.
The victims then pointed to the suspect, who was on board a tricycle at that time. Police immediately ran after the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Rex Tan.
They were about to arrest the suspect along Lope De Vega Street corner T. Alonzo Street when Tan suddenly pointed a gun at one of the responding policemen, prompting Gutierrez to shoot the suspect.
Tan sustained gunshot wounds in the leg and chest. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Recovered from the suspect were a bag and cash. Police also found out that the firearm Tan was holding was only a toy gun.
Further investigations are still ongoing. -- Report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
