100 houses razed, 3 killed in Tondo fire

MANILA -- Three people were killed and three others injured after a fire hit 100 houses in Tondo, Manila Tuesday afternoon.

The fire started at around 3 p.m. and was declared out an hour later.

Authorities said the blaze started from the second floor of an apartment along Delpan Street.

The fire immediately spread in the area since the houses were made of light materials.

Residents suspect it was caused by an unattended candle since there was no electricity supply in the area.

The fatalities were only identified as a 23-year-old child, a 3-year-old grandchild and a househelper of a certain Marlon Cuna.

The three other victims who sustained burns were rushed to the hospital.

Authorities said at least 200 families lost their homes . 

The cost of damage is estimated at over P2 million.

The Manila Fire Department is still investigating the incident. -- Report from Zyann Ambrosio, ABS-CBN News
