MANILA, Philippines – An explosion from improvised fireworks alarmed residents of Sampaloc, Manila Wednesday night.
The Explosive Ordnance Division of the Manila Police District said the explosion came from a mixture of gunpowder typically used in fireworks and firecrackers.
The blast occurred in front of an abandoned building along Loyola St. corner Recto at around 9 p.m.
Authorities said the gunpowder mixture was placed inside a concrete plant box, which caused debris to be scattered on the road.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
Witnesses said a group of men was seen drinking in the area before the blast. Investigations are still ongoing. -- Report from Jake Morales, dzMM
