Parents grieve for slain San Beda student
MANILA, Philippines – The mother of slain hazing victim, Marvin Reglos, has arrived from Korea to mourn for her son.
Myrna Reglos, a pre-school teacher in Korea, has not seen Marvin for 3 years. From the airport, she went directly to her son’s wake at San Beda College where Marvin was a freshman law student.
Myrna condemned the people behind Marvin's death. The law student succumbed to his wounds in Unciano Medical Center, Antipolo City last Sunday after supposedly undergoing initiation rites for the Lambda Rho Fraternity.
Two alleged Lambda Rho Beta fraternity members, Erick Edrosolano Castillo, 28; and Bodjie Amorin Yap, 24, were arrested on the night Marvin was rushed to the hospital.
“Siyempre kahit na sino mang magulang, masakit. I cannot describe the feeling. We want justice. Itaas ang pagpaparusa ng mga ganyang hazing sa frat,” Myrna said.
Marvin’s father, Luciano, meanwhile, said he would not forget Marvin, who had been a good son to him.
“Napakabait na bata niyan [ni Marvin]. Kung ano man ang sabihin ko sa kanya, ‘yes dy, oo daddy,’” Luisito said.
Marvin’s remains were brought Thursday to his hometown in Isabela. He will be buried on Sunday, February 26.
San Beda, Palace condemn hazing
San Beda College said it will cooperate with the investigation of the National Bureau of Investigation and Philippine National Police.
The school’s administration, together with the Law Student Government, have also formed a committee to conduct the investigation of the administrative aspect.
San Beda said it does not recognize the existence of fraternities, especially those that use violence in its rites.
The Palace said the practice of hazing should be stopped in all universities, citing the existence of an anti-hazing law.
