MRT, LRT operating hours increased Tuesday
The Metro Rail Transit (MRT) and the Light Rail Transit (LRT) systems will revise its operating hours Tuesday to accommodate commuters who may be displaced by the Metro Manila-wide transport strike, ABS-CBN News reported Monday.
The morning peak-hour window for MRT operations will be extended to 11 a.m. from the usual from 7-9 a.m run, during which 20 trains will be operational.
The afternoon peak-hour window will be extended by an hour, MRT management added.
Instead of 5 p.m., the peak-hour run will start as early as 4 p.m., and will continue until 7 p.m.
During the shortened off-peak hours, 12 trains will still be running, management said.
In addition, the MRT will have its trains running up to 11:30 p.m. instead of the usual 10:30 p.m. end of operations.
Security in the MRT system will also be doubled.
The LRT, meanwhile, will shorten the waiting time of passengers in the system's stations from five minutes to three.
LRT management said this wil be done because the system cannot add more trains to the existing 32.
Commuters who will use the train systems are asked to come to the stations earlier than usual on Tuesday so that the system could accommodate more people. Ina Reformina, ABS-CBN News
