MANILA, Philippines - Provincial buses will no longer be allowed in the city of Manila.

Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim has issued an executive order banning buses plying provincial routes from passing through streets in Manila in a bid to ease congestion.

The executive order will take effect on April 1.

Lim said provincial buses coming from the south will stop at Vito Cruz where shuttles will be available for commuters.

The association of provincial buses said the ban will affect their revenues. It plans to appeal the order.
