MANILA, Philippines -- Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) President Emmanuel de Guzman on Tuesday said the school is now investigating the protest action of several students on Monday which resulted in the destruction of school property.

De Guzman warned that students who participated in the throwing and burning of chairs may either be suspended or expelled from the school.

Meanwhile, Charley Urquiza of the Sentral na Konseho ng Mag-aaral-PUP claimed that the chairs they threw and burned were already broken and therefore were considered garbage.

He said the students condemn the high tuition fees being imposed by universities like PUP which burden students like Kristel Tejada of University of the Philippines (UP) Manila.

Tejada, a 16-year-old Behavioral Sciences student, committed suicide last Friday reportedly after being forced to leave the university for failing to enroll.
