Missing Australian feared kidnapped
MANILA, Philippines - An Australian man has been missing for 10 days since he was last spotted at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, police said Monday.
Authorities are looking into the possibility of a kidnapping, as they continue investigation on the CCTV footage of Michael Martin Caruana arriving at the airport.
Caruana's girlfriend, Venus Jane Galvez, has sought help from the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group over his disappearance.
The 55-year-old Australian arrived in the Philippines on March 17 in preparation for his wedding with Galvez on March 29 in Bulacan.
Galvez was supposed to fetch Caruana at the airport but arrived late due to traffic.
The Bureau of Immigration has confirmed that Caruana arrived in the country on March 17 at exactly 8:44 p.m.
He was on board Singapore Airlines flight SQ918.
It was not the first time Caruana has been in the country. He also visited Galvez on January 16 this year.
CCTV cameras at NAIA Terminal 1 caught Caruana's arrival.
He was seen at the immigration area and the arrival extension, where Galvez planned to meet him.
Unfortunately, there are no cameras in that part of the airport.
Police are not ruling out the possibility of a kidnapping.
They are studying the CCTV footage to check if Caruana was talking to someone at the airport.
Anyone with information on the missing Australian are asked to coordinate with the PNP Aviation Security Group. - report from Alex Santos, ABS-CBN News; ANC
