MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - The Light Rail Transit (LRT) and the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) on Monday announced they will suspend operations of their trains during the Holy Week break, from April 1 to 4.

The Light Rail Transit Authority said it will suspend operations of both LRT Lines 1 and 2 during the Holy Week break, from April 1 to 4.

LRTA administration Mel Robles said the agency will conduct maintenance checks on all LRT coaches during the suspension of operations. He said some catenary wires used to bring power to the coaches will need to be replaced.

Robles said the LRTA will also shorten its operations schedule to take advantage of the decreased passenger load.

He said the LRT will be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Monday, March 29, to Wednesday, March 31.

Robles said the LRT is at its highest security alert during the Holy Week.

On the other hand, the Metrostar Express will also be closed from April 1 to 4, also for maintenance checks.
