MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE 3) - A witness to the daring daylight robbery at Robinsons Galleria Thursday said he was shocked when the robbers started shooting inside the mall on Ortigas Avenue.
Witness “Raymart” said he was eating at Chowking Restaurant when 4 people in yellow green uniforms went inside the mall Thursday morning and started shooting at guards near the Robinsons Bank. A Robinsons Land spokeswoman, however, said only 2 suspects forcibly entered the mall before 10 am.
Raymart said the robbery incident happened near the mall’s food court.
“Nagstart ang putukan hindi sa labas, sa loob talaga,” he told Mornings@ANC.
He said he dropped to the floor when he heard rapid gunfire. He said the shooting lasted a long time, followed by an explosion.
“I don’t know how [the robbers] got in the mall. They were already inside the mall when the shooting started,” he said.
He said people hid inside the fast food kitchen for 30-45 minutes. He said they were only allowed to leave the kitchen after they were given the all-clear.
He confirmed that 4 people were injured in the explosion during the robbery. He said 2 of those injured were guards.
Raymart said the entire mall was closed down following the incident.
Robinsons Galleria reopened past noon.
