MANILA, Philippines – A 14-year-old girl with a learning disability was reported missing by her family, possibly after meeting friends she chatted with on the Internet.

The girl, identified as Catherine Romana, has been missing for five days and was last seen in Lower Sta. Ana, Barangay Sun Valley, Parañaque City. The girl’s parents suspect that social networking sites may have played a role in the disappearance of their daughter.

"We make sure na makita namin in plain view yung ginagawa niya sa Internet, pero ang di namin namonitor, kung sino yung mga ka-chat niya," said the mother, Anna Romana.

Catherine’s Facebook account was deleted Tuesday, adding reason for Catherine’s parents to worry.

The same social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook, which incidentally were blamed for the disappearance, were abuzz with sympathy and support to find Catherine.

A photograph of Catherine was also circulated to alert those who may have information on her whereabouts.

"Overwhelming yung naki-sympathize. Ang daming nagbibigay ng prayers tsaka dahil sa Facebook, na-guide kami kung paano maghanap.” said the girl’s father, Mony Romana.

Catherine’s parents are praying for their daughter’s safety. Catherine is turning 15 on Saturday. Report by Jacque Manabat, ABS-CBN News
