Manila City hall receives bomb threat
Tension gripped the Manila City Hall Wednesday morning after a woman warned police about a group of men planning to bomb the building.
Police Officer 2 Jet Tagonera of the Special Operation Group stationed at the city hall said he received the call around 6:30 a.m. through the Philippine National Police's hotline Patrol 117.
Tagonera relayed the call to the Manila Police District, which immediately sent a bomb disposal team to the city hall.
Several people were immediately asked to evacuate the city while police with bomb-sniffing dogs scoured the building floor-by-floor.
Police said there were no bombs found in and around the city hall after an hour and a half search.
Employees were asked to return to their work stations around 8:30 a.m. Police, meanwhile, implemented stricter security and inspection.
Tagonera said that according to the unidentified woman, who said she is a resident of Pampanga Street in Sta. Cruz district, she overheard a group of men talking about their plan to plant a bomb at the city hall.
Police said the information could have been one of the prank calls that police have been receiving.
However, the MPD said it needed to implement stricter security measures at the city hall just to make sure that the supposed plan will not be carried out.
