The wife of ABS-CBN news anchor Ted Failon remains in critical condition early Thursday morning in the New Era Hospital after being shot in the head Wednesday morning.

Dr. Adonis Gascon gave a short medical bulletin on the condition of Trinidad Etong past midnight Wednesday.

“She's critical, she's in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit)… She is on mechanical ventilator… Her vital signs are unstable,” said Gascon.

When asked if there would be procedures that would be conducted Gascon said: "At this point in time, surgery is not an option. It could change."

Gascon declined to give further details as he said: “Her general condition is a family matter at this point in time.”

The doctor said Trinidad’s three sisters were with her.

A police report quoted Failon as saying his wife was found dead Wednesday morning in their home in Tierra Pura while Failon was in ABS-CBN.

Authorities are now trying to determine whether the shooting was an attempted homicide or a suicide attempt.

Failon and the house maids who were inside the house at the time of the incident had already taken a paraffin test.

A reenactment of the incidents inside the Failon residence was also done for the police.

As of posting, Failon and the house maids were in Camp Karingal in Quezon City as part of the police investigation. With a report from Henry Atuelan, radio dzMM
