Suspect in Robinsons Galleria heist falls
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – One of the suspects in the robbery in Robinsons Galleria last March 29 has been arrested, police said on Tuesday.
Chief Inspector Rodel Marcelo, chief of the Quezon City’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) said they now have in their custody suspect Willie Enriquez.
Enriquez, 45, was arrested in Lemery, Iloilo on Monday night by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Pasay Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 110 Judge Petronilo Sulla.
Joint forces of the Quezon City and Iloilo police plus regional intelligence operatives carried out the arrest.
Marcelo said Enriquez was positively identified by witnesses.
He added Enriquez was spotted in the province with two others, days after the robbery.
Police also arrested Enriquez’s companion, Ireneo dela Cruz, who was in possession of an unlicensed 38-caliber pistol.
Marcelo said they will investigate whether dela Cruz was involved in the daring daylight mall robbery, where security guard Rodrigo Villa was killed and 6 others were wounded.
Authorities earlier said there were at least 6 suspects involved in the incident.
Two of the suspects’ sketches were later released by police.
Marcelo said police operations are ongoing to catch the remaining suspects. – report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
