MANILA – Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle led the traditional Washing of the Feet at the Manila Cathedral on Maundy Thursday.

Devotees flocked to the Manila Cathedral, which is celebrating its first Maundy Thursday mass since reopening after 2 years of renovation, to take part in the traditional rite.

In his homily, Tagle reminded Catholics to return to delivering service to their fellowmen out of love.

On the eve of his crucifixion, Jesus Christ washed the feet of his 12 apostles. Today, it is a traditional rite observed by churches around the world on Maundy Thursday.

As the Philippine Catholic Church celebrates the Year of the Laity, Tagle washed and kissed the feet of 12 laymen including a church minister, a devotee of the Black Nazarene and a person with disability.
