Heatstroke blamed for old woman's death
MANILA, Philippines - A 72-year-old woman in Barangay Nangka, Marikina City, has reportedly died of heatstroke.
Antonia Isaac has been suffering from tuberculosis, her family said her condition could have been aggravated by the hot weather these past few days.
Although there's no official confirmation from the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center Hospital where she has been treated for TB, the hospital's spokesman Dr. James Paul Garcia did not discount the possibility that Isaac died of heatstroke.
"Hindi naman masabi na heatstroke talaga pero may posibilidad na heatstroke, kung pag-alis niya dito nabilad siya sa araw o na-dehydrate," Garcia said.
Meanwhile, Department of Health spokesperson Dr. Eric Tayag reiterated his appeal to the public to take precautionary measures during the summer such as drink more water and make sure that houses have enough ventilation.
