MANILA -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) was counting on this weekend to continue its repair on unfinished portions of EDSA.

Areas where they still need to conduct road reblocking include:

Mandaluyong City
- Along EDSA between Connecticut and Libertad (southbound)
- Along EDSA between Temple Drive and United Street (northbound)

Quezon City
- Along EDSA between Quezon Avenue and Landmark (3rd lane, northbound)
- Along Kamuning Road between Sct. Ybardolaza to Tomas Morato (2nd lane)

However, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) denied DPWH's application for all road reblocking on EDSA this weekend.

According to MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino, he did not approve the road repairs due to 3-day mall sales and fun runs scheduled this weekend.

Tolentino, however, approved the repair of Kamuning Road between Sct. Ybardolaza and Tomas Morato. It will start at 10 p.m. tonight as scheduled.

The other 3 portions will be up for assessment again.

Tolentino assured that he will give the DPWH ample time to finish the remaining road works until May 21, in time for the World Economic Forum.
