MAKATI CITY (UPDATED) – A Chinese national driving a Ferrari hit a man who was waiting for a bus at a loading bay on EDSA Ayala early Thursday morning, reports said.

Authorities identified the victim as Dean Pangilinan, who was rushed to a nearby hospital. The suspect, meanwhile, has been identified as Ricky Dee.

"Pagpasok niya sa bus stop, sumampa yung kanyang gulong sa island, kaya tinamaan niya yung tao," according to Larry Azures, a personnel of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority who witnessed the accident.

Dee, who allegedly tried to flee, denied he was driving the Ferrari and claimed he was with a driver.

But witnesses said he was alone.

"Yun pong nakaputing long sleeves, siya po yung nakita namin," MMDA personnel Nikson Abalos said.

"Nakita po namin, solo lang po siya,” another MMDA personnel, Mark Bernardo, said.

Authorities said friends of Dee even showed up at the scene, driving a Jaguar and a Camry.

Dee refused to be interviewed by the traffic enforcers after the time of the accident, but he later issued a statement.

"We sincerely apologize for what happened early this morning involving our car. The accident was indeed unfortunate and nobody meant for this to happen. We are extending our sincerest and humblest apologies to the victim and his family," Dee said.

Dee also wanted to clarify "premature statements" prior to the accident, saying it was never their intention to veer away from their responsibility or even flee.

"Consequently, we will go through lengths to see forth that the victim is being taken cared of as we have already transferred him to a private hospital for which he will be given necessary and professional care. We take full responsibility for this unfortunate incident and we will not rest until the victim's needs have been met and he has fully recovered," Dee said. – with reports by Jerome Lantin and Karen Davila, ABS-CBN News
