MANILA, Philippines - Voters in Makati City were revolting as election workers allow senior citizens to vote first, resulting to long lines of disgruntled voters.

Voters were complaining that senior citizens, who were allowed to cut the line, took at least 30 minutes to finish shading their ballots.

"Sixty-four pa lang ang nakaka-vote. Number 325 ang number ko," a voter told ABS-CBN News in an interview.

The voter said that they while agree that senior citizens should be prioritized as they need to be properly guided by the board of elections inspectors, election officers have came up with a more organized system to accommodate more voters.

Earlier reports said voters at the San Antonio High School came as early as 3 a.m. for the opening of their polling precincts.

Many of them chose to come early to avoid the expected long lines. Others chose to be early because they still have to go to work after they cast their ballots.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) had advised voters to bring a prepared list of their preferred candidates so that they can quickly finish their ballots.

Meanwhile, the Comelec said that as of 9:30 a.m. only 7.8% of the total number of polling precincts has opened.

The Comelec said it was pleased with how things have been turned out in the first hours of Election Day as reported by their field personnel.

This despite several reports of Presinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines malfunctioning in several areas, particularly in Bulacan province.

Reports said that some PCOS machines refused to receive ballots being fed by voters.

The Smartmatic-TIM has made assurances that it has enough spare machines to replace machines that will malfunction on Election Day. -- With a report from Zen Hernandez, ABS-CBN News
