Tulfo brothers also facing cop's complaint
MANILA, Philippines - A television show hosted by the Tulfo brothers is also the focus of a complaint filed by a police officer, according to the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).
On Thursday, the MTRCB first heard the police officer's complaint the TV5 program "T3."
Senior Police Officer 3 Abubakar Maglangit of the Quezon City Police District said the Tulfo brothers questioned his capabilities and insulted him during the November 9, 2011 episode of the program.
Maglangit wants the program cancelled and the Tulfos to issue a public apology.
After hearing Maglangit's case, the MTRCB immediately tackled the threats issued by the Tulfo brothers over the same program against celebrity couple Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barreto a day after the NAIA 3 brawl.
Erwin, Ben and Raffy were not present, and only the lawyers and producers of TV5 attended the hearing.
Media were not allowed inside.
After 3 hours, the MTRCB issued a 20-day preventive suspension against the program, while the cases are being heard.
"The preventive suspension is for the interest of the public and to prevent further violations of the program," said MTRCB spokesman Atty. Eugenio Villareal.
The board is also coordinating with the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas to see if the Tulfo brothers should be suspended from their other broadcast programs.
"Our jurisdiction is confined to TV programs. We've made proper endorsement to KBP should they find any ground to take appropriate action against the TV personalities themselves," Villareal said.
Lawyers of TV5, however, believe that the Tulfos' show should remain on air since the station has already suspended the brothers.
The next hearing has been scheduled on May 14.
The MTRCB said it may issue a final ruling on that day and it is hoping for the full cooperation of the Tulfo brothers.
The heaviest penalty the agency can impose is the program's cancellation. - report from Gretchen Malalad, ABS-CBN News; ANC
