Police arrested Sunday a barangay kagawad in Caloocan City for offering nearly P200,000 in bribes to policemen in exchange for the freedom of his son who was arrested for selling shabu.

Kagawad Rumuro Yusof was caught on camera offering the bribe to Chief Inspector Christopher Rangan, head of the anti-illegal drugs division of the Caloocan police, after his son's arrest.

Police said Yusof had talked to several policemen asking them if they could release his son, prompting authorities to set up an entrapment operation.

"His son's case non-bailable, which is why he was offering such a huge bribe. We don't accept bribes here," said Senior Superintendent Jude Wilson Santos, Caloocan police chief.

Yusof did not deny offering money to police but said it was Rangan who was asking for the bribe."We were haggling over the price until we settled at P200,000. Major Rangan said I could trust him and this is what he does to me," he said.

Rangan has denied Yusof's accusation and said it was the kagawad who freely offered giving the bribe. Both father and son are now incarcerated in a Caloocan jail.
